Position Summary
We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced power conversion products. This role focuses on driving innovation in power density, efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise and leadership to guide product development from concept through high-volume manufacturing.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Lead multiple product development and research initiatives, providing technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers.</li>
<li>Manage and guide engineering teams through the full product lifecycle—from concept to high-volume production.</li>
<li>Research emerging technologies and evaluate their potential for future product integration.</li>
<li>Apply advanced techniques for efficiency optimization in power electronics designs.</li>
<li>Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure successful product certification.</li>
<li>Develop and maintain engineering documentation including requirements, test plans, validation reports, and ECOs.</li>
<li>Propose circuit topologies, perform loss analysis, evaluate performance targets, and estimate product cost based on specifications.</li>
<li>Design complex circuits including power, control, supervisory, and regulatory functions.</li>
<li>Review PCB layouts and design documentation prior to release for procurement and production.</li>
<li>Support product qualification efforts, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.</li>
<li>Oversee preparation and delivery of documentation for customers, factory pre-release, and final production release.</li>
<li>Participate in cross-functional design reviews with QA, Manufacturing, Marketing, and senior leadership.</li>
<li>Generate technical documentation to support design, manufacturing, and marketing activities.</li>
<li>Provide technical support to Marketing and Sales during opportunity development.</li>
</ul>
Experience Required
<ul>
<li>BSEE with 8+ years, MSEE with 5+ years, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of relevant experience in power electronics design.</li>
<li>Extensive experience in high-frequency, high-density switching power supply design, including:</li>
<li>Circuit topologies (Flyback, LLC, Buck, ZVS, Synchronous, etc.)</li>
<li>Control theories, loop compensation, and supervisory functions</li>
<li>Magnetics design (embedded and SMT)</li>
<li>PCB layout, component placement, and routing</li>
<li>EMI/RFI mitigation and thermal management</li>
<li>Proficient in simulation and design tools such as MathCAD, PSpice, SIMPLIS; experience with modeling topologies, thermal, and EMI performance.</li>
<li>Solid understanding of digital control via embedded controllers, firmware development, and communication bus protocols.</li>
<li>Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing technologies, production variances, and packaging challenges.</li>
<li>Experience with PADS software is a plus.</li>
<li>Knowledge of patent application, approval, and validation processes.</li>
<li>Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of guiding critical design decisions.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to bring products from concept to high-volume manufacturing.</li>
<li>Effective collaborator across cross-functional teams.</li>
