Responsibilities

Compensation, Benefits and Perks This position’s pay range is $18.48-$20.79/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position.
Work Schedule Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 0-20 hours per week with occasional work in the evenings, on weekends, and during holidays. High seasons for programming run from late September through early November and late March through early June. Building on its history as a pioneer in animal law and policy, VLGS seeks an experienced practitioner and instructor to fill a permanent position as professor and director of the Farmed Animal Advocacy Clinic (FAAC or Clinic).
 
The FAAC provides an experiential offering for students to work alongside and assist animal advocacy organizations and others. The FAAC is the only clinic in the country exclusively dedicated to farmed animal advocacy, providing expertise and assistance to a broad range of stakeholders. The director and professor will identify, connect with, and collaborate with clients and project partners, and train and guide students to provide them with law and policy assistance. The director and professor will join a vibrant and supportive clinical community and play a crucial role in the VLGS Animal Law and Policy Institute (ALPI). They will work closely with the ALPI to help identify, oversee, and implement grant-funded law and policy projects focused on farmed animal protection. Applicants should have a commitment to farmed animal advocacy and an enthusiasm for working with J.D., LL.M., and master’s students who are eager to learn practical skills.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

<li>Supervise and teach students on cases and projects in a clinical learning environment.</li>
<li>Develop and teach the Clinic seminar.</li>
<li>Manage grant-funded projects to develop innovative legal tools to improve legal protections for farmed animals in response to client/partner needs and funder deliverables and translate those tools for broad use; such tools may include but are not limited to legal reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, and online toolkits.</li>
<li>Provide direct representation to Clinic clients and maintain responsibility for case/project management and completion during transitions between semesters.</li>

What You’ll Do
As a club leader at Veritas Prep you’ll help continue to build a strong extracurricular program, developing extracurricular programs and supporting our students in the areas of knowledge, unique skills, teamwork, leadership, and social and emotional growth. It is shown that students who participate in extracurricular activities feel a better sense of belonging and community and your willingness to support the extracurricular program is appreciated.
You’ll also:
<ul>
<li>Help students develop positive attitudes while promoting and teaching unique skills, leadership, and teamwork.</li>
<li>Develop a thorough knowledge of all the extracurricular policies approved by Veritas Prep High School, including state and league regulations.</li>
<li>Attend public/staff/departmental meetings when required.</li>
<li>Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school extracurricular program.</li>
<li>Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices and adhere to scheduled facility times. </li>
<li>Coordinate with maintenance and school employees and provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and facilities.</li>
<li>Monitor students' grades and conduct.</li>
<li>Be present at all practices and events, and while traveling, provide assistance and guidance to and safeguards for each participant. </li>
<li>Complete and submit paperwork on all disabling injuries on proper forms. </li>
<li>Direct student inductees and staff leaders on respective teams </li>
<li>Determine discipline and delineate procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary.</li>
<li>Monitor use and return of equipment, submitting an annual inventory</li>
<li>Submit all records to Director of Athletics &amp; Extracurriculars, including awards lists, all signature forms, and community service plans/events.</li>
<li>Arrive early enough before meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterward to help students with problems or to become involved in staff discussions. </li>
<li>Perform such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the Principal/Director of Athletics &amp; Extracurriculars. </li>
<li>Transporting students to offsite related events, field trips, etc. utilizing the Transportation Vehicles, following the School Vehicle Use Policy, and completing training regarding driving the Transportation Vehicles (optional).</li>

The Whitney Academy, Inc. is a residential treatment center. We serve adolescent boys, ages 10 to 22 who present with cognitive delays and a spectrum of behavioral problems. These problems include psychiatric diagnoses, sexualized and trauma reactive behaviors.
Our mission is to provide education, residential and treatment environments that are as “normal” as possible given the needs of the students we serve. As a Special Education Teacher, you will provide classroom instruction and lesson planning to students performing below grade level in a six-student, self-contained classroom. Other requirements include excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills, and ability to collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
