Phillips Academy seeks an experienced aquatics professional to join the Academy in the newly created Aquatics Director position. The Aquatics Director is a member of the Phillips Academy Business Office and drives the management of the natatorium, overall aquatics facility, and supports the various programs offered by the Academy. The Aquatics Director will also play a key role in the front-line operations of the aquatic’s facility, will work to increase the aquatics facility revenue, and will fill in as needed with any / all direct service. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff positionwith evening and weekend responsibilities. The Aquatics Director is responsible for performing essential functions for continuity of athletic programming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Develops, implements, and oversees a variety of aquatics programs, including interscholastic and recreational, for the public, students, faculty, staff, including rental agreements during the academic year and Summer Session program.</li>
<li>Develops and proposes pro forma budgets for third party use of the Academy’s aquatic facility.</li>
<li>Assists with the development of budgetary needs of the aquatic equipment and training expenses.</li>

<li>Supervises, trains, evaluates, and advises lifeguards and is responsible for the recruiting and hiring of lifeguard staff in partnership with Human Resources.</li>

<li>All Swim Instructors will be required to complete a minimum of one full group session of training with the Owner or another Lead and will be supervised while instructing</li>
<li>Leads beginner group swim lessons while enforcing pool policies, rules, and regulations</li>
<li>Maintains constant supervision of students, will identify students who need assistance, and supports students as necessary to ensure a positive learning environment</li>
<li>Adheres to policies and procedures in organizational guidelines, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency incidents</li>
<li>Maintains positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and other staff as necessary</li>
</ul>
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
<ul>
<li>High School Diploma</li>
<li>Must have or be willing to obtain CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding Certificate</li>
<li>Must have clean CORI and SORI background check</li>
<li>Ability to recognize and remedy hazardous and dangerous situations</li>
<li>Ability to swim in shallow and deep water and tread water</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm</li>
<li>Ability to recognize students who may need assistance</li>
<li>Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets, etc.</li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s Degree</li>
<li>1-3 years of experience on a competitive swim team</li>
<li>1-3 years of experience as a swim team coach</li>
<li>1-3 years of experience as a swim instructor</li>
</ul>
Work Environment
The Swim Instructor must remain indoors at a facility pool with water and air temperatures of 75 degrees or higher at all times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemicals and fumes.
 
Physical Demands
Walks, runs, sits, stands, bends, lifts, swims and moves continually during working hours; is subject to lifting over 50 pounds. Must remain alert and able to recognize distress signals.
 
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position and hours will vary. Targeting Sunday hours.
