SUMMARY:

<li>Under the direction of the Mechanic Supervisor, supervise and partake in daily field operations and perform a variety of manual tasks related to all DPW capital improvement and maintenance of all the Towns vehicles and equipment.</li>
<li>In connection with such operations, maintain a wide variety of special heavy construction equipment, light-medium and heavy automotive equipment as directed.</li>
<li>Support Health and Safety and Commercial Driver License (CDL) programs.</li>

<li>Repair and maintain sanding, de-icing, and snow removal equipment, including mounting plows and welding plow frames.</li>
<li>6. Shall be available before, during, and after snow operations for equipment and vehicle set up, repair, and breakdown of snow vehicles and equipment.</li>
<li>Operate equipment for snow operations requiring a CDL license.</li>
<li>Repair and maintain paving, landscaping, line painting, pumps, and construction equipment.</li>
<li>Maintain the Departments material and equipment logs and software programs for inventory, tracking, and maintenance.</li>
<li>Purchasing Agent for required parts and supplies as directed by the Mechanic Supervisor.</li>
<li>Inspect all DPW vehicles prior to annual vehicle inspection or CDL Road Test.</li>
<li>Maintains Marblehead Department of Public Works Written Hazard Communication Program with current Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) of all chemicals, solvents, etc.</li>
<li>Assist with municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permit requirements and illicit discharge detection and elimination (IDDE) program. Perform inspections, construction repairs, and maintenance of the MS4 (storm water), including but not limited to: catch basin cleaning, CCTV videoing of pipes, pipe and structure repairs, inspections, etc. Serve as a competent person for MS4 (drain) construction, inspection, cleaning, and maintenance.</li>
<li>Support maintenance and improvement projects in public way including but not limited to: roads, sidewalks, signs, lines, walls, and fences. Support the daily operations of the Trench Repair Program, utilizing department personnel and equipment.</li>
<li>Carry a department-issued on-call phone on rotation and must be available for emergency duty and rotating weekends on-call.</li>

QUALIFICATIONS:

Duties and Responsibilities

<li>Perform opening track and kart repairs and performance checks</li>
<li>Maintain kart performance throughout the day</li>
<li>Maintain track and facility appearance and functionality</li>
<li>Keep accurate documentation of repairs, parts inventory, and special projects</li>
<li>Responsibly maintain supply of tools and machinery</li>

Our Level 2 Mechanic is a highly skilled and detail-oriented position and critical to the success of our team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of vehicles and machinery, ensuring that they operate safely and efficiently. You will work on various systems within the vehicle, including the engine, transmission, brakes, and electrical system, among others. This role requires a strong understanding of automotive technology and proficiency in using diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues. A level 2 Mechanic must be confident and capable in the following services: Brakes, Suspension/Steering, Charging Systems, &amp; Basic Tune-Ups, Cooling System, Electrical Circuits, Basic Diagnostics and Basic Engine Work.
RESPONSIBILITIES to include, but are not limited to:

<li>Proficiency in inspecting and maintaining the radiator, hoses, thermostat, and water pump to prevent overheating and ensure efficient engine cooling.</li>
<li>Ability to diagnose and repair cooling system leaks, flush the coolant, and replace components when necessary to maintain proper engine temperature.</li>
<li>Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical issues, including troubleshooting wiring problems, testing, and replacing fuses and relays, and addressing issues with lights, switches, and electrical components.</li>
<li>Knowledge of electrical schematics and the use of multimeters and other diagnostic tools to identify and rectify electrical faults in the vehicle's · Ability to use diagnostic tools and scanners to identify and interpret trouble codes, assess sensor readings, and diagnose common vehicle issues.</li>
<li>Proficiency in visual inspections, listening to engine sounds, and conducting basic tests to identify problems with the engine, transmission, brakes, and other key systems.</li>
<li>Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing common engine issues such as replacing worn-out or damaged components, such as spark plugs, belts, hoses, and gaskets.</li>
<li>Ability to conduct basic engine tune-ups and address minor engine repairs to ensure proper engine performance and longevity.</li>

Requirements:

<li>High School Diploma or GED required, vocational training or technical training program in automotive service technology or a related field preferred.</li>
<li>ASE Certification preferred, or a willingness to attain it with our full support and assistance</li>
