Schedule

  • Full-time | 40 hours per week

  • Rotating day shifts between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

    • Example shifts include:

      • 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

      • 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

      • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

      • 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

      • 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

      • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

  • Occasional weekends and holidays may be required

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $35.75/hr

  • Weekly Non-Taxable Stipend: $630

  • Estimated Weekly Gross: $1,430

Position Overview

The Apheresis Phlebotomy Technician I is responsible for organizing, recruiting, and performing blood donor collections through a structured donor program. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality blood and apheresis collections while maintaining excellent donor care and compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of donor blood and apheresis collections, including donor verification, venipuncture, monitoring, and post-donation care

  • Provide excellent customer service to donors in mobile units and donor collection centers

  • Assist with offsite blood drives and collection events as assigned

  • Prepare, label, and process blood components and specimens for testing

  • Maintain inventory of supplies and collection materials

  • Perform quality control procedures, instrument calibration, quality assurance, and process improvements

  • Review blood bank records to resolve donor-related inquiries and operational issues

  • Prepare reports and statistical data related to platelet donor programs

  • Train staff and new team members on donor collection processes and procedures

  • Maintain and manage a list of prospective platelet donors

  • Recruit donors for whole blood and apheresis collections

  • Support promotional events, incentives, and outreach efforts for donor programs

  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary work areas to ensure safety and compliance

  • Stay current with professional development through training, workshops, and continuing education

  • Maintain knowledge of departmental policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational needs

Required Education, Experience & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

  • Experience Requirements:

    • Minimum of 2 years as a Donor Phlebotomist OR

    • 1 year of Apheresis Phlebotomy experience

  • Working knowledge of blood groups, Rh typing, and donation procedures

  • National Phlebotomy Certification required (must maintain active status)

    • ASCP PBT certification OR equivalent national phlebotomy certification accepted

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

  • Ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with donors

  • Typing proficiency: 30 words per minute

Training Requirements

  • Must attend and successfully complete manufacturer-provided operator training for automated apheresis equipment

  • Training must be completed within 3 months of starting the training program
