Position Overview
D&C Construction is an established general contractor performing construction, renovation, and repair services to water, wastewater, and other infrastructure facilities throughout New England. Since 1985 D&C has completed hundreds of public sector projects helping to deliver clean water, manage waste and storm water, and build for a more resilient future. The work is centered around wastewater and sewer treatment plants, pumping stations, and related facilities. The work also includes civil construction that supports these facilities. This includes site work, yard piping, and underground utility work such as water and sewer repairs and extensions.
The Working Foreman plays an important role in the success of D&C’s field operations. The Working Foreman is responsible for leading a field crew while also performing hands-on work alongside the team. This role is a key link between field supervision and the crew. The Working Foreman helps plan the daily work, assigns tasks, monitors progress, supports safety, communicates job needs, and ensures the work is completed correctly, safely, and efficiently.
The Working Foreman is expected to set the tone for the crew through strong work habits, clear communication, safe decision-making, and a positive attitude. This position requires both leadership ability and field experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct the daily activities of an assigned field crew.
- Work alongside crew members to complete hands-on field tasks.
- Review daily work plans and help organize labor, equipment, tools, and materials.
- Assign tasks based on job needs, employee skill level, and safety requirements.
- Monitor work quality, productivity, and progress throughout the day.
- Operate equipment, use tools, and perform labor as needed.
- Help train employees on safe work practices, proper methods, and company expectations.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
- Identify field issues, safety concerns, or equipment needs and communicate them promptly.
- Support required field documentation, including timekeeping, daily reports, job photos, or related paperwork.
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, inspectors, customers, subcontractors, and other field personnel when needed.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and D&C’s standards for safety, quality, and professionalism.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior field experience in construction, utilities, excavation, site work, paving, or a related trade.
- Ability to lead and direct a small crew.
- Ability to perform physical work in outdoor jobsite conditions.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices.
- Ability to read or understand basic plans, layouts, work orders, or job instructions.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Valid driver’s license, if required for the position.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, nights, or emergency work when needed.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience training or mentoring employees.
- Equipment operating experience.
- Knowledge of underground utilities, excavation, concrete, paving, drainage, grading, or related field work.
- Hoisting, CDL, hydraulic license, or other trade-related licenses, if applicable to the work.
