Job description:

New Bedford, MA | $20.00-$28.00/hour | Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Schedule: Mon-Fri 9:30am-6pm + Occasional Saturdays 8am-4:30pm

Position Overview

Join our Urgent Care team at a Federally Qualified Health Center providing fast-paced patient care to diverse communities. Perform clinical support including patient intake, vital signs, EKGs, point-of-care testing, and direct patient care assistance.

Requirements

Education & Certification:
Medical Assistant Certificate (formal MA program completion required)
CCMA or CMA (National certification strongly preferred)
CPR/AED Certification required (current/active)
High school diploma or GED

Experience:
2+ years medical assistant experience preferred
Entry-level candidates considered
Urgent care or fast-paced clinic experience a plus

Skills:
Electronic Health Records (Epic preferred)
Strong communication and organizational abilities
Customer service excellence
Bilingual/Trilingual preferred (Spanish/Portuguese)

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Patient intake: vital signs (BP, temp, height, weight, O2 sat)
  • Pain assessment, allergy screening, smoking history
  • Administer immunizations per provider orders
  • Perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, visual acuity, oximetry
  • Medication reconciliation and pharmacy coordination
  • Document all findings in EHR

Patient Care Support:

  • Greet and room patients using two-identifier verification
  • Interview patients and obtain brief medical history
  • Assist with clinical procedures and examinations
  • Triage phone calls with nursing staff support
  • Serve as patient advocate maintaining confidentiality

Facility Operations:

  • Prepare and sterilize medical instruments
  • Maintain exam rooms (infection control, aseptic technique)
  • Change exam table paper between patients
  • Schedule appointments and manage referrals
  • Order point-of-care testing supplies and medical inventory
  • Handle correspondence and administrative tasks
