Professional Land Surveyor

Location: Rocky Hill, CT
Job Type: Full-Time

About the Role

MCA is seeking a motivated and experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensed in Connecticut to join our growing team. Licensure in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or other New England states is a strong plus. This opportunity is driven by the continued expansion of our firm and our commitment to excellence in land surveying, civil engineering, and environmental consulting.

As a Professional Land Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing and supporting diverse survey projects, including infrastructure, transportation, utility systems, and large land developments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage various survey projects from start to finish

• Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders

• Perform and review survey work to ensure accuracy and quality

• Oversee complex projects involving:

  • Bridges and railroads

  • Highways and utilities

  • Stormwater systems and infrastructure

  • Construction stakeout and layout

• Mentor junior staff and support professional development within the team

Qualifications

• Active PLS license in Connecticut (required)

• PLS license in MA, RI, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe (preferred)

• Expertise in:

  • Easements and rights-of-way

  • ALTA/NSPS surveys

  • Boundary and topographic surveys

  • Legal property descriptions

  • Project and team management

• Proficiency with modern field equipment:

  • Total stations

  • GPS/GNSS systems

  • Data collectors

• Strong experience with drafting software:

  • Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or similar

  • Ability to establish CAD standards and mentor others

• Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to manage deadlines and client expectations

• Valid driver’s license (required)
