Medical Technologist

Veterans Management Services, Inc. (VMSI) is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) to support the White River Junction VA Medical Center. This position provides comprehensive laboratory testing and analysis in a state-of-the-art clinical environment serving the healthcare needs of our nation’s Veterans.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform testing in Chemistry, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, Hematology/Coagulation, and Microbiology.
• Conduct routine and complex analyses using automated instruments and manual methods.
• Ensure quality control and participate in CAP Proficiency Testing programs.
• Document, evaluate, and report test results independently.
• Safeguard patient information in compliance with HIPAA, VA, and Joint Commission standards.
• Provide professional, patient-centered laboratory services that meet or exceed national standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
• Current certification (MT, MLS, or CLS) from ASCP or AMT.
• Minimum 3 years of recent clinical laboratory experience across multiple specialties.
• Strong technical proficiency with a commitment to quality and patient safety.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in:
• Medical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology / Clinical Laboratory Science
• OR related science (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Immunology)
• Must include a clinical practice program accredited by NAACLS, CAAHEP (formerly CAHEA), or ABHES.

Alternate Pathway:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry with required coursework (16 hrs biology incl. microbiology, 16 hrs chemistry incl. organic/biochem, 1 math course)
• PLUS 2 years post-certification experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or AMT certified).

Certification

• Current certification as one of the following:
• Medical Technologist (MT)
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)
• Accepted certifying bodies: ASCP-BOC, ASCP-BOR, AMT

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of recent experience across:
• Chemistry
• Urinalysis
• Blood Bank
• Hematology
• Coagulation
• Microbiology

Additional Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to pass VA background and credentialing checks.
• Compliance with VA health and safety requirements, including:
• Annual TB test, flu vaccination, proof of MMR/Varicella immunity, Hepatitis B vaccination, etc.
• Must obtain/maintain a National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Required Training: BLS/ACLS (renewed every 2 years), HIPAA, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen, Privacy & Security awareness.
