Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

This opportunity seeks an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support visually impaired students in a dynamic school setting in Boston, MA. The successful candidate will play a critical role in enhancing student independence through specialized mobility training and orientation services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement individualized orientation and mobility training programs for students with visual impairments.
  • Assess students functional vision and mobility skills to develop tailored intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and other specialists to integrate mobility strategies into daily school activities.
  • Provide ongoing progress monitoring and adjust plans based on student needs.
  • Educate school staff on best practices in supporting students with visual impairments.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with program standards.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Proven experience working with school-aged children with visual impairments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to assess and adapt to diverse student needs with creativity and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology and assistive devices.
