Rosewood Manor is a rest home in Harwich with twenty-seven residents. We are hiring an Activity Assistant, per diem or part time, to help run our daily activities program.
Twenty-seven residents, and enough staff to care for them
Small census, low resident-to-staff ratios. You are not rushing a room full of people through a craft so you can get to the next thing. You have time to sit with the resident who would rather talk than play cards.
You get to know all twenty-seven. Their history, what they enjoy, who will sing along if you start the song. That is what makes an activity work.
Something for everyone, every day
Our program runs daily and is geared for memory stimulation at all levels. Every one of them should have something to take part in, so you adjust as you go. That might mean simplifying a game, or sitting one-on-one with someone who does better away from the group.
The work
Games, music, arts and crafts, exercise, socials and seasonal events. You will help set up beforehand and clean up after, keep the supplies stocked, decorate for the holidays, and note who attended and how it went. When the weather cooperates, you will help get people out on the deck and into the gardens.
Planned around the people who live here
You will work alongside Kylie Costello, our Director of Activities. She plans each month around the residents actually living here, not a fixed template. The calendar is posted online, and families plan their visits around it.
The building is a house
Built for a sea captain in the mid-1800s. An antique cape on Main Street, expanded and modernized since, still the size of a house. Exposed beams, a fireplace in the common room, a dining room where everyone eats together, a deck and gardens outside.
Come and see it first
You are welcome to walk through before you apply. Come mid-morning or mid-afternoon, when something is usually going on.
Pay
The pay rate for this position is $20.00 per hour.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with older adults, caregiving, recreation, hospitality or education preferred, but not required
- Patient, outgoing, and comfortable leading a group
- Able to stand, walk, and lift activity supplies
- Reliable transportation, and some weekend availability
