Sr. RF/Microwave Design Engineer - Passive RF Components
Job Description
Job Description
Great opportunity with our sister Amphenol company, XMA to join their team in early 2027 due to an upcoming retirement. XMA is an industry-leading manufacturer of passive RF, microwave, and millimeter wave solutions. We are a small and mighty team (approximately 50 employees and growing!) of dedicated employees at our Manchester, New Hampshire facility.

The Senior RF/Microwave Design Engineer is part of the “disruptive” team supporting XMA’s Vision. The role requires a solid background in passive RF components — including coaxial attenuators and terminations, power dividers, and couplers — across military, commercial, and satellite applications. The incumbent owns the design of new products end to end, from circuit design and physical layout through the drawings, documentation, and process definition required to build and test them in production.
Success in this role depends on readily applying both established and new design techniques to operate over multiple octave bandwidths, using construction methods that include stripline, microstrip, and suspended stripline across the DC–110 GHz frequency range. Beyond individual design output, the incumbent serves as a technical resource across the business — providing bench support, guiding design reviews and root cause failure analysis, and mentoring others on test and tuning — so that engineering capability is built into the team rather than concentrated in one person.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Expected to develop products that will exceed our customers’ needs. This includes calculating the circuit design, generating a physical layout and drawings, defining dependencies required of the mechanical packaging, and understanding the limitations of the processes that will be used in production.
- Proficient in RF test utilizing network analyzers and average and peak power setups.
- Utilize computer simulation tools such as CST, Ansoft Designer, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
- Expected to work closely with other team members to transfer the design, as needed, into detailed drawings and procedures that are required to successfully build and test the products.
- Create and support documentation required for failure analysis, ATPs, QTPs, and manufacturing work instructions. The documentation will articulate clearly defined intent and scope, methods used to test and analyze, and a precise conclusion.
- Exhibit a strong background in RF mechanical packaging and processes.
- Requires strong interpersonal skills to work across multiple departments to support operations and key initiatives in the most effective and efficient manner.
- Self-initiated, hands-on, and knowledgeable bench support to not only verify his/her own designs, but to mentor others to help optimize test and tuning.
- Support all facets of new product design introduction and development processes, including experience in space, cryogenic, and high frequency applications.
- Provides guidance, as required, for any technical design questions, such as:
■ Alternate design approaches
■ Modeling and analysis of data
■ Data collection
■ Component prototyping
■ Design reviews
■ Root cause failure analysis
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and/or 8+ years of experience in an RF/microwave engineering role. Requires RF/microwave design experience including analysis, circuit and system modeling, and product integration and test; millimeter wave experience preferred. Requires knowledge of electromagnetic modeling tools and fundamental knowledge of the mechanical design used to implement RF/MW designs. Knowledge of thin film sputtering, photolithography, and etching is preferred.
XMA is committed to equal employment opportunity.
