The Director of Externships, will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Experiential Learning, will be responsible for oversight and management of all aspects of the externship program, including: curriculum for the externship seminars; recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating field supervisors; conducting or coordinating site visits; establishing program policies; representing the law school in local, regional, and national externship meetings; and providing counseling and guidance to students about appropriate placements to develop skills and advance professional goals. This position includes responsibility for expanding the current program for the part-time and evening students in the new JD Access distance learning program. This position also includes the opportunity to enhance the current program, such as launching a semester in practice, summer externship program, creating a seminar to accompany second externships, and contributing more broadly to deepening the law school’s commitment to professional development and experiential learning opportunities. The teaching load for this position is 12 credits, which typically include two 4-credit offerings for the externship program, two credits of a required 1L course dedicated to an introduction to the legal profession, and an additional 2-credit course to be determined in consultation with the Dean.
