Job Description

Job DescriptionRole Snapshot

Step into a field-based role where you’ll be the on-site expert keeping large hospital sterilizers pristine and reliable. As a trusted advisor to STERIS Customers, you’ll deliver hands-on decontamination services and light maintenance on complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic equipment in fast-paced healthcare settings.

A Day in the Life

You begin the day by confirming your route and loading your company van (which you keep at home) with the right chemicals, tools, and PPE. On arrival, you brief the Customer on the cleaning plan, then:

  • Perform chamber cleaning, including changing chemical ingredients, making proper chemical adjustments, and monitoring cycle parameters to maintain correct pressures.
  • Inspect and maintain the chamber cleaning equipment; make minor repairs and escalate issues as needed for safe, effective operation.
  • Handle, transport, and dispose of chemicals in strict accordance with safety protocols.
  • Document all work using your company-issued smartphone and laptop; submit reports and updates promptly.

Throughout the day you communicate proactively with Customers, Field Service partners, and the contract administration team—raising concerns, sharing updates, and identifying service enhancements. Before heading home, you reconcile your parts and supplies inventory and plan the next efficient route with the Scheduling Team and your Supervisor.

Schedule and Travel

  • Field service position with frequent travel (approximately 75%), primarily by company van within a few hours’ drive; occasional air travel to other territories.
  • Full-time role with variable shifts (mornings, afternoons, nights) and some weekend days.
  • High flexibility required to meet healthcare facility needs.
  • Overnights may be required, with up to 50% overnight travel.

What You’ll Own

  • Customer satisfaction as the first point of contact—professional, proactive communication and rapid issue resolution.
  • Scheduling coordination and status updates (arrival, service progress, completion, next steps).
  • Adherence to coverage and service standards across your assigned territory.
  • Troubleshooting observations and routing issues to the right technical contacts.
  • Care and accountability for your company vehicle, tools, equipment, and parts inventory.

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of work experience, including at least 1 year in a technical or service field (e.g., sterile processing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, automotive). An associate degree, relevant certifications, or military experience may count toward the experience requirement.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours—often outside standard business hours—with overtime and weekends; comfortable with up to 50% overnight travel.
  • Solid computer and smartphone proficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and Customer communication.
  • Strong organization and problem-solving; able to work independently without supervision.
  • Proficiency with industrial cleaning equipment operation, plus maintenance and repair skills.

What STERIS Offers

  • Market competitive pay
  • Extensive paid time off plus 9 paid holidays
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits
