Empower students to thrive by supporting learners with visual impairments across a diverse age range, from preschool through age 22. In this rewarding full-time contract opportunity, you’ll collaborate with school teams and families to ensure each student receives tailored instruction and access to the Expanded Core Curriculum in multiple educational settings.
Bring your expertise as an educator and advocate for accessible learning as you work alongside general and special educators within three vibrant school communities. Your day-to-day impact will extend across various instructional activities—from conducting in-depth vision assessments to introducing and recommending adaptive technology, tactile graphics, and Braille resources.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; candidates with a Master’s in Special Education are highly encouraged to apply
- Valid Massachusetts DESE Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Vision Impairment license)
- SEI Endorsement required
- Solid understanding of the Expanded Core Curriculum, including compensatory skills, technology, and Orientation & Mobility (O&M) collaboration
- Proficiency with Braille, large print adaptations, tactile graphics, and low-vision devices is advantageous
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve students in preschool through age 22 at three district school sites by providing direct and consultative vision services
- Conduct functional vision assessments (FVAs), learning media assessments (LMAs), and related evaluations
- Advise educators and families on instructional adaptations and technology to increase student independence and access
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to IEP development as a key member of the special education team
