Make a difference in the lives of students with visual impairments by supporting learners from preschool through age 22 in a vibrant, supportive educational environment. This full-time contract opportunity empowers you to work across several school buildings, providing critical services and expertise essential for student growth and access.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university (Master’s in Special Education preferred)
- Valid Massachusetts DESE certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Vision Impairment license)
- SEI Endorsement
- Thorough understanding of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), including compensatory and access skills, assistive technology, and a collaborative approach to O&M
- Proficiency in Braille, large print formats, tactile graphics, and low-vision devices highly desirable
- Prior experience conducting functional vision assessments (FVAs), learning media assessments (LMAs), and other vision-specific evaluations is a plus
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve students with vision impairments across three school sites, collaborating with dedicated teams of teachers and specialists
- Conduct FVAs, LMAs, and other assessments to inform eligibility, develop IEPs, and create personalized service plans
- Provide direct instruction and consultation in all areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum, fostering access to the general education curriculum
- Recommend, adapt, and support the use of assistive technology and specialized materials tailored to student needs
- Partner with orientation & mobility specialists to ensure seamless skill development and access across environments
- Maintain thorough documentation and contribute collaboratively at IEP meetings
