Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Equipment Manager plays a vital role in supporting the daily operation of Phillips Academy's Athletic Equipment Room and serves approximately 1,160 students participating in one of the nation's premier interscholastic athletics programs.
Working under the direction of the Head Equipment Manager, this position provides direct support to student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletics administrators by ensuring uniforms, apparel, towels, equipment, and athletic supplies are clean, organized, available, and ready for practices, contests, and special events.
This is an academic year full-time position (mid-August through end of June) requiring flexibility to meet the changing demands of the athletics calendar. The position regularly requires Saturday work during the academic year, with schedules adjusted to support contests, tournaments, preseason preparation, postseason play, and special events.
Essential Responsibilities
Daily Equipment Room Operations
- Assistwith the daily operation of the athletic equipment room.
- Issue, collect, organize, inspect, and store athletic uniforms, apparel, towels, andequipment.
- Prepare equipment and uniforms for daily practices, contests, travel, and tournaments.
- Maintain organized storage areas and ensure equipment roomsremainclean, safe, and efficient.
- Assistwith inventory counts and end-of-season collection and reconciliation.
Laundry Operations
- Coordinate the daily collection, laundering, drying, folding, organization, andtimelyredistribution of uniforms, towels, pinnies, and practice gear.
- Deliver clean laundry to athletic facilities throughout campus and collect soiled items on a consistent schedule.
- Ensure coaches receive uniforms and equipmentin a timely manner.
Equipment Support
- Assistin fittingstudent-athletesfor uniforms and equipment.
- Help inspect equipment for safety and report items requiring repair or replacement.
- Assemble, prepare, transport, and retrieve equipment for practices, games, and tournaments.
- Assistwith receiving shipments, organizing deliveries, and stocking supplies.
Customer Service
- Provide outstanding daily service to coaches, students, athletic trainers, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Respond promptly to requests whilemaintainingprofessionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Equipment Manager toanticipateseasonal needs.
Other Responsibilities
- Support equipment operations during home contests, tournaments, andspecial events.
- Assistwith online team apparel distribution as needed.
- Perform other related duties assigned by theHeadEquipment Manager or Athletics Operations Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diplomarequired;associate's or bachelor'sdegree preferred.
- Previousexperience working in athletics, equipment operations, facilities,logistics, retail operations, warehouse operations, or a similarly hands-on service environment preferred.
- Valid driver's licenserequired.
- Experience working with adolescents or in an educational environment isdesirable.

Schedule Expectations
This position requires flexibility to support a vibrant, year-round athletics program. The work schedule regularly includes:
- Five daywork includingregularSaturday workschedule.
- Early mornings and/or evenings depending on athletic schedules.
- Additionalhours during preseason, tournaments, playoffs, championships, and other major athletics events.
- Work schedules are adjusted throughout the year based on seasonal athletics demands.
- Andover’s athletic programis requiredprogramming for its student body and runs year-round, including through and during inclement weather. The role of equipment manager is essential to the proper running of the athletic program and thus, this position is categorized as an essential employee
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Push carts loaded with uniforms, laundry, and athletic equipment.
- Walk extensively across campus throughout the day.
- Stand, bend, reach, kneel, climb stairs, and perform repetitive lifting.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
