Job Title: Travel OR Surgical Tech

Job Location: Hyannis, MA

Duration: 13 Weeks
Possibility of extension

Compensation: $1,900–$2,100 Gross Weekly (Based on Experience)

Schedule:

  • 40 Hours Per Week
  • 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM
  • 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Schedule may vary based on department needs

Position Type: Travel Contract

Work Setting: 100% Onsite

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Surgical Technologist to support surgical procedures in a fast-paced operating room environment. The Surgical Tech will prepare surgical rooms, maintain sterile technique, assist surgeons and the surgical team during procedures, and ensure surgical instruments and equipment are properly prepared and available.

Orthopedic (Ortho) experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
  • Maintain a sterile environment in accordance with facility policies and applicable AORN standards.
  • Perform scrub technician functions across various surgical services and specialties.
  • Assemble, inspect, and adjust sterile and non-sterile equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Pass instruments, supplies, and sterile items to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures.
  • Hold retractors, cut sutures, and assist with sponge, needle, instrument, and supply counts.
  • Prepare, handle, label, and dispose of surgical specimens according to established procedures.
  • Assist with application of surgical dressings.
  • Ensure procedure-specific instruments and equipment are available according to department protocols and surgeon preference cards.
  • Assist with safely transporting and positioning patients in the Operating Room.
  • Follow appropriate sterilization methods for specialized equipment and instruments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical supplies, equipment, and their proper use.
  • Operate sterilizers and assist with surgical lights, suction, and diagnostic equipment as needed.
  • Under the direction of the surgeon and Registered Nurse, safely prepare and accurately label medications used during surgical procedures.
  • Assist with transferring patients to the recovery area.
  • Assist with Operating Room turnover, cleaning, and restocking between procedures.
  • Protect and respect each patient's privacy, dignity, rights, and safety.
  • Help maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new Operating Room employees as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Work with Registered Nurses to maintain and update specialty-specific equipment and instrumentation.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and professional development programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required QualificationsEducation

  • Graduate of an accredited civilian or military Operating Room Technician/Surgical Technology program required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Certifications

  • Current NBSTSA certification required and must be maintained throughout the assignment.
  • Current BLS certification required.

Experience & Skills

  • Previous Operating Room/Surgical Technologist experience required.
  • Orthopedic (Ortho) experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile technique, surgical equipment, and OR procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
