Job Description
About Us
Better Homes LLC is a high-end construction and home remodeling company built from the ground up — literally. Our owner Nicholas started swinging a hammer in high school and never stopped. Since 2017, we've been doing quality work for quality clients: custom bathrooms, finish trim, exterior siding, and full new builds. No shortcuts, no sloppy finishes. Just work we're proud to put our name on.
We're a small crew right now — four guys who show up, work hard, and actually care about the end result. Our reputation is entirely word-of-mouth and we hold a 90% client retention rate because of it. We're not the biggest company, and we're honest about that. But we're growing, we're building something real, and we need the right person to grow with us.
The Role
We're looking for a Lead Carpenter who wants more than just a job site to show up to.
This isn't just "run the crew and hit the punch list." We need someone who's bought into building a company — helping us create the systems, checklists, and workflows that will let Better Homes scale without losing what makes us good. You'll work directly alongside Nicholas day-to-day, help lead the crew on site, and play a real role in developing our apprenticeship program so we can bring up the next generation of guys the right way.
If you want to clock in, clock out, and collect a paycheck — no hard feelings, but this probably isn't the fit. If you want to be part of something you helped build, keep reading.
What You'll Be Doing
-
Leading the crew on job sites — keeping work moving, quality tight, and communication clear
-
Working directly with the owner on high-end remodels and new construction projects
-
Helping build out internal systems: workflows, job checklists, quality standards, and process documentation
-
Developing and running our apprenticeship program to train and bring up newer crew members
-
Holding the standard on finish quality — bathrooms, trim, siding, and everything in between
-
Reading plans and blueprints and translating them into real, precise work
-
Identifying problems before they become expensive — and proposing solutions, not just questions
-
Being a reliable face for clients on site
What We're Looking For
-
5+ years of experience in remodeling and/or construction — you know the trade, not just part of it
-
Real leadership experience — you've run a crew or managed a job site before
-
Strong finish carpentry skills (bathrooms, trim, and exterior work are a major plus)
-
Ability to read blueprints and plans
-
A problem-solver, not a problem-reporter
-
Organized and communicative — clients are high-end and expectations match
-
Someone who is genuinely hungry to do well and be part of a growing team
-
General liability experience / ability to work in an insured environment
We're also looking for someone who takes pride in their work the same way we do. If "good enough" is your standard, we're going to be a bad match. If you hold yourself to the same level as the guy paying you, we'll get along just fine.
What We Offer
-
Competitive pay based on experience
-
Profit sharing
-
Health Insurance
-
Retirement
-
A direct line to ownership — no middle management, no corporate nonsense
-
Real ownership in what we build together (the company, the systems, the culture)
-
Work that you can be proud of — no flipping cheap houses, no cutting corners for margin
-
Room to grow as we grow — this role can become whatever you make it
A Note from Nicholas
We're a young company still figuring some things out. I won't pretend otherwise. But we have a great reputation, a crew that cares, and a clear vision for where we're headed. What I need is someone who sees that and wants to be part of it — not just as an employee, but as someone who helps shape how we operate.
If that sounds like you, I'd love to talk.
