Role: Service Equipment Mechanic - HVAC
Location: 215 Duchaine Boulevard, New Bedford, MA 02745
Department: Maintenance – Ball Plant III
Type: Full-Time
Shifts: 3rd Shift (Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday)
About the Role: We are seeking a skilled Service Equipment Mechanic to support the operation and maintenance of critical facility systems at our Ball Plant III location. In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the performance, safety, and reliability of HVAC, environmental, fire protection, compressed air, and cogeneration systems. This is a hands-on position ideal for a mechanically inclined professional with strong troubleshooting skills and a commitment to operational excellence.
What You’ll Do:
Monitor and maintain the Building Management System (BMS), including heating, cooling, refrigeration, fire protection, compressed air, and cogeneration systems Perform preventive and predictive maintenance using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Troubleshoot and repair facility systems to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime Calibrate monitoring equipment to ensure system accuracy and compliance Maintain accurate records of work orders, parts inventory, and maintenance activities Support continuous improvement initiatives and respond to facility-related service requests
What We’re Looking For:
3+ years of experience in building services or facility maintenance, including HVAC systems (chilled water, desiccant, and DX)
Strong knowledge of pneumatic systems, pumping systems, and mechanical equipment
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Comfortable using hand and power tools, measuring devices, and machine tools (e.g., drills, lathes, millers)
Proficient in basic math, computer use, and Windows-based systems
Must have own trade-related tools Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to obtain forklift, pallet-jack, or man-lift certification if not already held
Special Credentials / Skills:
Demonstrated ability to install, troubleshoot, and maintain facility systems
Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures, confined space protocols, and general safety standards
Ability to calibrate, inspect, and maintain HVAC and environmental systems
Experience using CMMS platforms to manage maintenance schedules and documentation
Preferred (but not required) Certifications:
Universal Refrigeration License
MA 2nd Class Fireman License
Wastewater Treatment Certification
Forklift or man-lift certification
CDL (Class A or B)
