Director of Electrical Engineering
Job Description
Job Description
Build Products. Lead Engineers. Make an Impact.
Finish Line Product Development Services is looking for a hands-on Director of Electrical Engineering to lead our electrical engineering practice and help develop innovative products for startups, small businesses, and established companies.
This isn't a traditional corporate Director role where you'll spend your days managing from a distance.
You'll lead, engineer, solve problems, work directly with clients, and help shape how our electrical engineering team operates.
Our projects span a wide range of products and technologies, giving you the opportunity to see products move from concept → engineering → prototype → production.
What You'll Do
- Lead electrical engineering projects from concept through prototype and production.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers and technicians.
- Review schematics, PCB layouts, architectures, component selections, and electrical designs.
- Troubleshoot prototypes and solve complex hardware problems.
- Work directly with clients to understand requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and project management teams.
- Establish and improve engineering processes, standards, documentation, and design-review practices.
- Help develop technical scopes, project estimates, schedules, and development strategies.
- Support design verification, testing, troubleshooting, and transition to manufacturing.
- Help build a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- The Person We're Looking For
You may be an excellent fit if you're an experienced engineer who:
- Wants to remain technically involved while taking on greater leadership responsibility.
- Enjoys mentoring engineers and making the people around you better.
- Understands that good engineering requires both creativity and process.
- Is comfortable working directly with customers and company leadership.
- Can turn ambiguous customer requirements into a practical engineering plan.
- Doesn't need a large organization around you to get things done.
- Takes ownership and follows problems through to a solution.
- Enjoys variety and isn't afraid to wear multiple hats.
We're more interested in your engineering judgment, leadership ability, and ability to solve real-world problems than the title on your previous business card.

You'll work directly with clients and company leadership, collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines, influence technical decisions, mentor engineers, and help build the processes that define our electrical engineering organization.
You'll see your work go from an idea on a whiteboard to a working prototype and, ultimately, a product.
