Summary: Under the supervision of the teacher, the Substantially Separate Special Education Paraprofessional will assist special education students with specifically designed instruction and participate in the daily instruction and so that they may access the same education opportunity as their non-special education peers. Must be physically capable of and willing to run, stand, sit, stoop, crawl, kneel, reach, twist, push, sitting on the floor to complete activities and lift a child weighing more than 50 pounds as required to meet unique student needs.
Major Responsibilities:

The Special Education Paraprofessional will work closely with a small case load of students who need additional supports to be successful in the classroom Carry out classroom schedule and routines

Assist with and follow a variety of classroom tasks and carry out classroom schedule and routines

Prepare materials and lessons with the classroom teacher; Make copies of homework, parent notices, and resources

Assist in helping students’ complete assignments; Attend to behavioral and medical needs

Help maintain a clean and organized classroom; Implement school and district policies and procedures

Communicate with classroom teacher with regards to students’ social, emotional, physical and academic needs

Maintain confidentiality

Develop and maintain helpful, supportive, respectful, and nurturing relationships with all children and families in the classroom

Assist in the maintaining a safe, healthy, secure, exciting, and developmentally appropriate classroom

Incorporate and pursue special interests and talents within the classroom; Observe classroom procedures as often as possible.

In the event that the classroom teacher is absent, paraprofessionals will be expected to take full responsibility for or assist the substitute teacher in classroom routines and pre-planned lessons.

Morning Duty: Includes active supervision of hallways and classroom.

Afternoon Duty: Includes active supervision of dismissal process.

Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend
Qualifications

Required 48 college credits hours or Associate degree or Passing score on ParaPro test (Minimum requirement for meeting highly qualified status)

Strong background in communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Bachelor’s Degree

Assist in toileting and Activity of Daily Living (ADL) skills as determined by student need
-
One to one paraprofessional must have the skills, abilities and aptitude to meet all unique needs of their assigned student
