Role Description The Contract Furniture Designer is a full-time, hybrid role based in Shelburne, VT, with some flexibility for work from home. This role is responsible for designing office furniture layouts and full workspace solutions, including space planning, furniture specification, and visual presentations that align with client needs and budgets. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing project requirements, creating detailed CAD or design drawings, selecting product lines and finishes, and preparing accurate bills of materials for quotes and orders. The designer collaborates closely with account executives, project managers, and vendors to refine concepts, ensure technical accuracy, and support timely project delivery. Additional responsibilities include participating in client meetings, maintaining design standards and documentation, and staying current on furniture trends, ergonomics, and workplace design best practices.

Qualifications

- Strong space planning and interior layout skills, with experience designing office or commercial environments.
- Proficiency with design and drafting tools (e.g., CAD software, Revit, or industry-specific furniture design platforms) and basic 2D/3D visualization.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, construction documents, and building codes relevant to furniture placement.
- Experience specifying contract furniture products, finishes, fabrics, and related accessories to meet functional and aesthetic requirements.
- Solid project coordination abilities, including organizing tasks, managing deadlines, and maintaining accurate documentation for quotes and orders.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with sales teams, project managers, vendors, and clients.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and comfort balancing design quality with budget and schedule constraints.
- Knowledge of ergonomics, workplace strategy, and trends in office environments is highly beneficial.
- Relevant education such as a degree or certification in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to work in a hybrid model from Shelburne, VT, with reliable time management and self-direction for remote work.
