Architectural Designer 1 - Residential
Job Description
Job Description
The SV Design Narrative: Build Something That Lasts
SV Design is a place for Legacy Builders. We are made up of professionals who are looking to grow, stay, and build a career. We focus on hiring people who see their work as a long-term contribution to our firm, our communities, and the next generation of design talent. As a 50-person firm, we offer a rare "magic trick": the high-caliber project diversity of a large practice combined with the ego-free, collaborative feel of a small studio. We are locally rooted, relationship-driven, and focused on the craft of "doing the work" rather than the noise surrounding it. If you value ownership, proximity to leadership, and a community where you belong rather than just a place where you work, SV Design is your next chapter.
Job Summary
We are looking for a personable, motivated, and technical Architectural Designer 1 to join our Residential team in Winchester. In this role, you will work primarily on mid to large-sized high-end residential projects, serving as a key draftsperson responsible for quality and coordination. This position is designed for someone with 2+ years of experience who is eager to master the technical side of architecture under the mentorship of experienced Project Managers and Principals.
What You'll Do
- Technical Drafting & Documentation: Create detailed AutoCAD drawings and models based on existing building dimensions and design sketches. Incorporate redline revisions accurately across all project phases.
- Field Work: Conduct field measurements and documentation to draft and review existing building conditions.
- Schematic Design Support: Contribute to design layouts and features through research and documentation; assist with hand drafting and computer-generated renderings.
- Project Progression: Support projects through design development and construction documentation. Review shop drawings for accuracy and adherence to SV Design standards.
- Integrated Collaboration: Work alongside our architects and interior design team to ensure alignment with design intent. Assist Project Managers with material sourcing and presentation prep.
Capabilities
- Technical Curiosity: You don't just draw lines; you want to understand the "why" behind residential construction methods and details.
- Ego-Free Collaboration: You value the "red line" process as a mentorship tool and prioritize project success over personal "solo" design work.
- Proactive Ownership: You are self-motivated and take the initiative to ask for clarity to ensure work is done right the first time.
- Design Eye: You bring a refined aesthetic sensibility to every technical task, ensuring documentation is as thoughtful as the design itself.
What You'll Have
- Experience: 3–6 years of professional architectural experience (Residential focus is a significant plus).
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD is required. Skills in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite are a plus.
- Education: Professional degree (B.Arch or M.Arch) is required to support the path to licensure.
- Availability: Full-time, in-office (8 AM – 5 PM) with core collaborative hours from 9 AM – 3 PM.
- Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Even if you don't have the exact experience, we are always looking for talented people. If you believe you can contribute to our team, we invite you to apply. We appreciate diversity and welcome those who can bring fresh perspectives and skills to our team.
What you can expect in our process:
- Phone, 30-min, HR interview: TalentTrack
- In-person, 60-min, Portfolio Review: with Principal and Project Manager.
- Virtual, 30-min, Culture: Reverse interview with Partner
