Someone who likes working with their hands, takes pride in a clean install, and enjoys being on the road and on site. If you’re dependable, careful, and handy with tools, we can teach you the tech skills.
Field Installation Technician Job Description
We’re looking for someone to install and set up technology in our clients’ K-12 schools and municipal buildings across Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. Most of the work is hands-on: mounting interactive panels, installing network equipment, and getting classrooms and offices ready to use. When the job is done, every install should be finished, tested, labeled, and documented.
You’ll work with our Network Manager, project leads, and client-facing technicians to plan installs, carry them out on schedule, and hand off finished work to the client team. A lot of the work happens during school breaks, summer, and other times that avoid disrupting classes and town operations.
Field Installation Technician Responsibilities
- Installing and wall-mounting interactive flat panels, displays, projectors, and mounts, including brackets, power, and cable management.
- Installing and replacing network equipment, including switches, wireless access points, firewalls, UPS units, and rack hardware.
- Patching, terminating, testing, and labeling network cabling in network closets and classrooms.
- Doing basic setup and configuration of installed equipment and checking that it works before signing off.
- Receiving, inventorying, staging, and transporting equipment, and removing and disposing of old hardware.
- Doing site surveys before installs and taking photos and notes for the project team.
- Writing clear install documentation, including device locations, labels, and as-built notes.
- Keeping job sites clean and safe, and working respectfully around students, staff, and the public.
- Traveling to client sites in a company vehicle, including overnight trips.
Field Installation Technician Requirements
- 1+ year of hands-on experience in IT, AV, low voltage, electrical, or a similar install or trade role.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools, ladders, and lifts.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for long stretches.
- A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Able to pass a CORI/background check and any fingerprinting a school district requires.
- Willing to travel overnight across New England.
- Basic networking knowledge (preferred).
- CompTIA A+ or Network+, OSHA 10, or a cabling certification (preferred).
- Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and good at communicating.
Compensation, Benefits, Schedule, and Location
- Compensation: $25.00 to $32.00 per hour, depending on experience
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday. Some early starts, evenings, or weekends to work around school and town schedules.
- Location: Regular travel to client sites in MA, VT, CT, RI, and NH, including overnight stays.
- Benefits include:
- 401(k)
- Paid time off
- Company vehicle for job travel
- Company-paid lodging and meal per diem on overnight trips
- Mileage reimbursement
