Schedule: 8-Hour Shifts, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Call/Weekend Requirement: No call or weekends during the first contract
Weekly Gross: $1,900–$2,100/Week (Based on Experience)
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support surgeons, registered nurses, and the operating room team across a variety of surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, infection control, and OR protocols. Orthopedic experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons and registered nurses during a variety of surgical procedures.
- Prepare operating rooms with surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
- Maintain a sterile environment in accordance with established policies and AORN standards.
- Perform scrub technician duties across multiple surgical services and specialties.
- Assemble and verify sterile and non-sterile equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures.
- Handle retractors, cut sutures, and assist with counts of sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
- Prepare, handle, and properly dispose of surgical specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Assist with surgical dressings and patient positioning.
- Ensure surgeon- and procedure-specific instruments and equipment are available according to preference cards and department protocols.
- Transport and position patients in the operating room.
- Use appropriate sterilization methods for specialized equipment and instruments.
- Operate sterilizers and assist with surgical lights, suction equipment, and diagnostic equipment as needed.
- Safely prepare and label medications under the direction of the surgeon and RN.
- Assist with transferring patients to the recovery area.
- Assist with room turnover, cleaning, and restocking.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and safety at all times.
- Assist with orientation and training of new OR employees.
- Maintain and update specialty equipment and surgical instrumentation.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and professional education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited civilian or military Operating Room Technician/Surgical Technician program.
- Current NBSTSA certification required and must remain active throughout the assignment.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong technical knowledge of surgical environments, infection control, and sterile techniques.
- Ability to perform scrub technician duties across multiple surgical specialties.
- Orthopedic (Ortho) experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a surgical team while maintaining a safe and sterile environment.
