Step into a meaningful role providing essential care for students as a contract School Nurse (LPN or RN) for the current and upcoming school year. This unique opportunity involves morning bus rides, ensuring safety and health support for several remarkable students with complex medical needs.
Your commitment will be approximately 7.5 hours per week, with early morning shifts starting at the Virginia Barton Education Center. You’ll play a vital part in each student’s journey to school, overseeing care for individuals with conditions such as chronic encephalopathy, Type 2 diabetes, Angelman syndrome, asthma, cerebral palsy, chromosomal abnormalities, and seizure disorders. Your expertise will help provide peace of mind for families and support student participation in education.
Qualifications:
- Active Massachusetts LPN or RN license required
- At least 1 year of nursing experience, preferably in school or pediatric settings
- Proven ability to administer g-tube feedings, PRN medications (Valtoco, EpiPen, O2), suctioning, and monitoring chronic health conditions
- Comfort working independently and responding to health emergencies
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
Responsibilities:
- Ride the morning bus route, monitoring students’ health and responding to medical needs during transit
- Document care and incidents as needed during transportation
- Communicate with school staff and parents regarding student health status
- Ensure all medical equipment and supplies are ready for each trip
