Job Description
About This Role

The West River Montessori School is currently seeking a dedicated, full-time early childhood educator to guide our youngest learners during a critical window of development. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and protecting a beautifully prepared environment that fosters independence, language acquisition, and functional coordination. As the classroom leader, you will maintain deep developmental records, and partner closely with families to bridge the gap between home and school. If you are a patient observer with a deep respect for the child’s natural development, we invite you to lead our toddler community.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and maintain a beautiful, orderly classroom environment that inspires freedom of movement, independent exploration, and child-led learning in alignment with Montessori principles.
  • Design, create, and rotate specialized classroom materials based on the changing developmental needs and emerging interests of each child.
  • Observe each child's development closely to introduce appropriate Montessori materials and tailor individualized lessons that support their physical, linguistic, and emotional growth.
  • Foster toddler independence and self-regulation by patiently guiding children through practical life skills, toilet learning, and routines that empower them to "do it themselves."
  • Act as a gentle guide and facilitator within the prepared environment, nurturing language acquisition, coordination, and a respectful classroom community.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and orchestrate family education initiatives to help parents implement Montessori principles and support developmental milestones (like toilet learning) at home.
  • Ensure full compliance with local and state childcare licensing regulations, including supervising mandated health, safety, and emergency response drills.

Requirements

Preferred applicants will have an Associates in Early Childhood Education (or 21 college credit hours) and at least 1 year experience working with children.

Mandated Certifications & Compliance

  • Background Clearance: Must successfully complete and pass the mandatory Vermont child care background check process prior to employment.
  • First Aid & CPR: Must hold and maintain a current certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR.
  • Health & Safety Training: Proof of completion of the state-mandated Vermont Child Care Orientation Training (covering essential health, safety, and mandatory reporting guidelines) within the state's required timeframe.
  • Continuing Education: Commitment to completing a minimum of 12 hours of annual professional development activities to satisfy the teacher's Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
