POSITION SUMMARY
The responsibilities of the Accessioning Technologist are to perform duties including but not limited to receiving and unpacking specimens, preparing specimens for lab tests, data entry of patient information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), following SOPs and ensuring that specimens are stored properly. This person will work under the direct supervision of the Accessioning Supervisor/Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Receives laboratory samples.
- Accessions clinical samples in the Laboratory Management System (LIMS) following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensures proper maintenance is performed on laboratory equipment and properly documented.
- Manages any discrepancies in clinical samples.
- Maintains a well-organized and clean work environment.
- Ensures integrity of sample is maintained (proper storage of specimens, timely processing).
- Reports issues, or deviations to a supervisor in a timely manner.
- Accomplishes assigned tasks in a timely, accurate and compliant manner.
- Will QC daily data entry.
- Participates in Laboratory compliance and quality plans on a regular basis to ensure regulatory obligations are met.
- Follows CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and related safety guidelines as described in their respective regulations.
- Follows company policies and practices as outlined in all company resources, including, but not limited to, safety and compliance guidelines.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
- Previous medical or production experience is a plus.
- Clinical laboratory experience or related work environment preferred.
- Prior experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Adherence to attendance and punctuality.
- Comfortable handling biological specimens.
- Proficient in English with demonstrably excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled in anticipating and resolving issues.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management and process management.
- Proficient in the use of computer applications and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Able to perform a wide variety of tasks accurately and safely and multi-task effectively.
- Attention to detail, organization, and data analysis skills are required.
- Computer entry and/or typing skills are desirable.
- Understanding of legal and ethical issues concerning patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 25 lbs.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waltham, MA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
