The Mystic Valley YMCA Aquatics Department is hiring part time certified lifeguards.

Salary Range: $16.00 To $20.00 Hourly
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
- Know and review all safety rules, policies, guidelines, and emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; complete related reports as required.
- Ensure every child connects with their guardian after their swim class.
- Remain calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
- Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action.
- Assist with the cleaning of the Aquatics Center when not guarding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- ACTIVE LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED. If you are not certified, please check our program booklet for the next available certification course.
- Minimum age of 16; 18 years old for opening lifeguard
- Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration and current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

- Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.

- In person interview & Lifeguard prerequisite swim test
- CORI/SORI checks
- If hired,
- Certifications must be submitted before start date
- Lifeguard Orientation/Training
- Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
