Ready to bring your mechanical skills to a new, rewarding position? Our client is seeking a Direct Hire 2nd shift Maintenance Mechanic in Ayer, MA.
Job Summary: As a Maintenance Technician, you will support the maintenance team in troubleshooting and repairing high-speed packaging equipment on production lines.
Maintenance Mechanic Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, and inspect equipment to assess operating conditions. Identify the root causes of equipment issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues related to PLC systems, including interpreting wiring diagrams.
- Disassemble and reassemble mechanical equipment such as gearboxes, cylinders, pumps, and valves. Replace worn-out or damaged parts as necessary.
- Ensure continuous operation of machinery and mechanical systems by completing scheduled preventive maintenance on motors, engines, pneumatic tools, conveyors, and production machinery, following detailed diagrams, operation manuals, and engineering specs.
- Identify equipment malfunctions by observing devices in operation, listening for irregularities, and using precision measuring and testing tools.
- Remove faulty parts by disassembling equipment with hoists, cranes, and hand or power tools, and inspect parts for wear and damage.
- Measure parts for dimensional accuracy using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and rulers.
- Adjust and calibrate device components and control instruments using hand tools and measurement tools to ensure proper functioning.
- Help minimize equipment downtime by educating production staff on preventive maintenance practices and monitoring adherence to maintenance procedures.
- Fabricate custom repair parts using machine shop tools and equipment.
- Monitor inventory levels of maintenance supplies, parts, and equipment. Place orders and expedite deliveries as necessary.
- Use maintenance resources efficiently to complete job tasks, minimizing waste of materials and tools.
- Address maintenance-related inquiries by providing clear and accurate information.
- Prepare maintenance reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing operational data and trends.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices by attending workshops, computer training, and reading technical literature.
- Maintain clear communication and documentation to ensure continuity within the team, especially regarding actions, issues, and ongoing needs.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations to maintain a clean and secure work environment.
- Contribute to the overall success of the team by assisting with other tasks as needed.
Maintenance Mechanic Skills & Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing setting is preferred.
- Experience in food manufacturing maintenance is a plus.
- Familiarity with maintenance terminology, GMP, OSHA, FIFO, SPL, and PM practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proactive, responsible approach to work.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently, but also able to collaborate effectively with management and team members.
- Ability to squat/kneel/bend on a frequent basis
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to work in a cold or hot environment
