The Staff Urologist will join our Surgery Service team as a full-time professional, delivering exceptional, evidence-based medical care to Veterans experiencing issues related to the genitourinary system. This role involves providing care through both in-person visits and virtual consultations, all under the general oversight of the Chief of Surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care:
- Conduct thorough evaluations, diagnoses, and management of adult and elderly Veterans with a wide range of urological conditions, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, urological cancers, hematuria, nephrolithiasis, urinary tract infections, incontinence, and erectile dysfunction.
- Hold scheduled outpatient clinics (both in-person and virtual) for consultations, follow-ups, chronic disease management, and ongoing patient care.
- Create patient-focused treatment plans based on clinical evaluations, diagnostic findings, and the goals set by Veterans.
- Procedures and Surgical Care:
- Perform both basic and advanced urological procedures within the scope of granted privileges, including cystoscopy, vasectomy, urodynamic studies, bladder biopsy, orchiectomy, ureteral stent placement, retrograde studies, TURP, TURBT, ureteroscopy, and stone management.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, which includes conducting history and physical examinations, reviewing diagnostic studies, performing surgical assessments, and documenting findings in medical records.
- Assess patients for any changes in health status, lab results, and vital signs prior to surgical procedures.
- Offer consultative Urologic Surgery services suitable for the ambulatory capabilities of the facility.
- Telehealth and Access to Care:
- Utilize VA-approved telehealth platforms, including Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT), VA Video Connect (VVC), and electronic consults, to broaden access to specialty care across the service area.
- Ensure prompt triage and management of consults, providing recommendations and specialty insights to referring providers.
- Quality, Compliance, and Collaboration:
- Ensure that care provided meets VA clinical standards and adheres to evidence-based practices.
- Monitor clinical activities for compliance with VA policies and utilize findings to enhance performance and patient outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and their families to set and achieve both short- and long-term care objectives.
Compensation and Benefits
