Overview

The Certified Physical Therapy Assistant will provide physical therapy treatment services for assigned inpatients and outpatients in a pediatric orthopedic, rehabilitation clinic, under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist in accordance with Massachusetts Code of Regulations APTA Standards of Practice. This position functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to act as a resource to staff and families regarding assigned areas of responsibility.

It functions under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist (PT) and overall supervision of the physical therapy manager, within a framework guidelines, workflows and policies and procedures. The physical therapy assistant (PTA) shall document in the patient record and notify the supervising PT of any change in the patient’s condition.

This is a full time position.

The pay range for this position is $28.93 hourly to $39.34 hourly. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and department equity.


Responsibilities

  • Implements monitors change in treatment plan assigned by supervising PT.
  • Assists with data collection under the supervision of a licensed PT.
  • Performs gross assessment and monitors change in ROM, sensation, muscle strength, balance, tone, coordination, gross motor skills, developmental sequencing / milestones, bed endurance, developmental sequencing/milestones, gross motor skills, bed mobility, transfers, w/c skills, prosthetic usage and equipment needs, as appropriate.
  • Administers standardized tests under the supervision of a licensed PT after competency has been established.
  • Provides direct service that follows a documented routine and accepted procedure under the supervision of a PT in collaboration with patient, family and medical staff.
  • Implements a physical therapy treatment plan developed by supervising PT, to address the short and long term goals of each patient in a timely manner and in compliance with departmental policies and standards of care.
  • Adapts intervention environments, tools, materials, methods and activities according to the needs of the individual patient.
  • Communicates status change of patient to supervising PT for re-evaluation and modification of treatment plans and goals.
  • Participates in discharge planning, under the supervision of a licensed PT, to assure completion of patient and family education / training and equipment needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

CERTIFICATION

  • Physical Therapy Assistant required
  • CPR required

EDUCATION

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledge and skills would be:

  • A. Degree from an American Physical Therapy Association Approved school or board eligible or equivalent in work experience and training.
  • One to two years pediatric experience preferred.
  • One to two years of general experience as a PTA preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Two years pediatric, ortho, burns or rehab preferred
  • Two years related work experience preferred
