This is a 3rd shift position that includes a $1.05 per hour shift differential.

SCOPE OF WORK: Performs a broad range of general and routine custodial, grounds, and/or building maintenance duties on the 3rd shift, which may require the operation of maintenance equipment and driving. This position reports to the 3rd Shift Facilities Services Supervisor at Nashua Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, classrooms, labs, hallways, lavatories, including stripping, washing, and waxing floors, vacuuming, emptying wastebaskets, dry mopping, walls, furniture, etc. and performing other custodial duties as required.
  • Maintains the appropriate use of high quantity of costly chemicals as part of the floor maintenance and general cleaning program and selects the appropriate chemicals based on the task to be performed.
  • Operates all types of automatic floor scrubbing machines and high-speed floor buffing machines as part of a floor maintenance program.
  • Maintains the proper use of chemicals such as disinfectants, sanitizers, and cleaning compounds to differentiate in their use in cleaning floors, toilets, etc., as opposed to food preparation and handling areas where improper cleaning methods will contaminate food prep surfaces and equipment.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance duties to include snow removal and salting of areas as needed, entrance upkeep, and mowing lawns, as well as ensuring outside premises are always maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs general painting assignments and moving/relocation of furniture throughout campus as needed, conducts general repairs as necessary.
  • Assists in overseeing the safety and security of all buildings, grounds, and equipment, as well as of the students, faculty and staff; reports safety issues and concerns as observed throughout the campus to supervisor and/or Campus Safety Office.
  • Serves on campus or system committees and teams.
  • Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency. drivers' license required.

Experience: One (1)year of experience in custodial, grounds, and/or building maintenance, including the operation of cleaning, grounds, or maintenance equipment. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

License/Certification: Possession of a valid driver’s license.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of the operation and care of electric sweepers, mop wringers, brushes and other household cleaning equipment. Familiarity with the materials, equipment and methods commonly employed in office cleaning operations. Ability to understand and carry out simple instructions. Ability to make minor repairs to cleaning equipment. Physical strength to withstand manual labor of strenuous work conditions. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
