Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on providing hands-on facilities maintenance support across a university campus, performing light repairs and upkeep to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment. You will handle a variety of tasks, from basic carpentry and drywall work to minor plumbing repairs and general handyman duties, while interacting professionally with campus staff, students, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Perform light carpentry tasks, including minor repairs and adjustments to fixtures, doors, and related structures.
- Complete light drywall work such as patching, repairing, and preparing surfaces for painting.
- Handle light plumbing tasks, including clearing clogs in drains and toilets and performing basic fixture maintenance.
- Replace window screens, door knobs, and doors as needed to maintain safety, security, and functionality.
- Carry out general facilities maintenance and repair tasks throughout commercial-style campus buildings.
- Support painting and touch-up work to maintain a clean and presentable appearance of interior and exterior spaces.
- Use hand tools and basic equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair assignments.
- Assist with cleaning and basic upkeep tasks as needed to support the overall maintenance function.
- Respond to maintenance requests across the campus and help wherever needed, taking on projects you are capable of completing.
- Interact with campus staff, students, and visitors in a professional, courteous manner while working in occupied spaces.
- Communicate clearly with the facilities team about work status, issues found, and any additional repairs required.
- Demonstrate a flexible, team-oriented approach by taking ownership of tasks and avoiding a “not my job” mindset.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience as a facilities technician or in facilities maintenance within a commercial property setting.
- Proven experience performing light carpentry work, including minor repairs and adjustments.
- Hands-on experience with light drywall repair, patching, and preparation.
- Practical experience with light plumbing tasks such as clearing clogs in drains and toilets.
- Ability to replace window screens, door knobs, and doors safely and accurately.
- General handyman skills across multiple trades, with the ability to handle a wide variety of small repair tasks.
- Proficiency using hand tools and basic maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Experience in facilities maintenance, repair, and cleaning within a professional environment.
- Ability to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Strong professionalism and customer-facing skills, with a presentable appearance and respectful communication.
- Willingness to assist wherever needed and take on projects within your capability.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a university or campus environment is an advantage.
- Experience in painting and surface preparation is beneficial.
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a facilities team.
- Positive, can-do attitude with a strong sense of ownership and reliability.

Work Environment
This position is based on a university campus, supporting multiple buildings in a commercial-style facilities setting. You will work on-site Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., moving between different campus locations as maintenance needs arise. The role is hands-on and requires regular use of hand tools and basic maintenance equipment for carpentry, drywall, plumbing, painting, and general repair tasks. You will work in occupied spaces and interact directly with students, faculty, and staff, so a presentable appearance and professional demeanor are essential. The environment is collaborative and service-oriented, with an expectation of flexibility to assist on a wide range of projects and tasks.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Springfield, MA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.38 - $25.38/hr.
