Empower students to thrive by supporting learners with visual impairments across all grade levels. A dynamic, full-time contract opportunity awaits a passionate educator with specialized training, serving students from preschool through age 22. Collaborate across a range of educational settings, providing expert instruction and advocacy for children in need of vision support.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Master’s degree in Special Education is a strong plus
- Hold a valid Massachusetts DESE Vision Impairment license (Teacher of the Visually Impaired)
- SEI Endorsement required
- Knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC): compensatory/access skills, assistive technology, and collaboration with Orientation & Mobility specialists
- Experience with Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and low-vision devices preferred
- Familiarity with vision-specific evaluation tools and assessment practices
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve students across multiple buildings, supporting a diverse caseload from preschool through high school graduation
- Conduct comprehensive functional vision assessments (FVAs), learning media assessments (LMAs), and vision-specific evaluations to guide IEP development and instructional planning
- Deliver direct instruction to build independence, academic access, and life skills
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to implement accommodations and deliver individualized services
- Develop and adapt materials (Braille, large print, tactile graphics) aligned to each student’s needs
- Foster an inclusive environment, advocating for accessibility and student success
