Senior System Infrastructure Engineer

Direct Hire | Worcester, MA | $150,000-$170,000

About the Opportunity

A growing manufacturer is seeking a highly experienced Senior System Infrastructure Engineer to lead the administration, security, modernization, and support of its enterprise technology environment. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for the organization's server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, storage systems, networking, cybersecurity, and cloud technologies.

Compensation: $150,000-$170,000 annually (DOE)
Location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Employment Type: Permanent / Direct Hire

Position Summary

The Senior System Infrastructure Engineer will design, implement, maintain, secure, and optimize enterprise infrastructure systems. This position serves as a key technical resource supporting mission-critical business operations and will work across servers, storage, virtualization, networking, cybersecurity, cloud services, backup and disaster recovery technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, install, configure, and support enterprise servers, network equipment, and firewall technologies.
• Manage and maintain Windows server environments and enterprise infrastructure platforms.
• Administer Microsoft Exchange (on-premises and cloud environments).
• Support Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Defender, and related technologies.
• Administer VMware virtualization environments including vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
• Manage enterprise storage platforms and backup infrastructure.
• Support network infrastructure, wireless environments, VPN technologies, and cybersecurity initiatives.
• Design and implement monitoring, reporting, and configuration management solutions.
• Develop project plans, risk assessments, and contingency strategies.
• Lead infrastructure troubleshooting efforts for complex technical issues.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best practices.
• Evaluate hardware, software, cloud, and telecommunications solutions.
• Mentor and cross-train technical team members.

Required Qualifications

Infrastructure & Systems

• Advanced Windows Server administration experience (Windows Server 2019 or later).
• Experience managing large-scale Windows environments with 50+ servers.
• Strong VMware administration experience including vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter. Extensive experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
• Experience administering Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Intune, and Defender.

Storage & Networking

• Strong NetApp storage administration experience.
• Experience with Cisco ASA firewall administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting Cisco Meraki switching and wireless platforms.
• Strong understanding of:
• TCP/IP
• VLANs
• Routing & Switching
• Network Segmentation
• Site-to-Site VPNs
• Remote Access VPN Technologies

Cybersecurity

• Strong knowledge of:
• Infrastructure hardening
• Vulnerability management
• Patch management
• Secure access controls
• Network security practices

Additional Skills

• Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
• Ability to independently manage complex technical projects and infrastructure initiatives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interact with technical teams, business stakeholders, leadership, and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is highly desirable:

• Support of legacy VAX computing environments.
• Nutanix AHV, Prism Central, Prism Element, or hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
• SQL, VB.NET, or HTML development experience.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• 15+ years of enterprise infrastructure, systems administration, or network engineering experience.

Preferred Certifications

One or more of the following certifications is preferred:

• VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
• Cisco CCNA or CCNP
• Microsoft Certifications
• NetApp Certified Data Administrator
• Nutanix Certified Professional
• CISSP or similar cybersecurity certification

Additional Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and screening process.
• Demonstrated employment stability and long-term tenure are strongly preferred.
• Must be available for occasional after-hours support, weekend maintenance, and limited business travel.
