Job Description

Job Description Lead a Critical Heating System Upgrade in Derby, VT

Picture your day: you arrive at a secure federal facility in Derby, Vermont, greet the on-site team, and review the plan of the day with specialty subcontractors. By mid-morning, you’re walking the job, verifying protection and QC checkpoints for a heating system removal-and-replacement. After lunch, you’re sequencing trades, resolving field issues, and keeping the Project Manager looped in—clear, concise, and on time. Before you leave, you log progress, prep tomorrow’s look-ahead, and make sure the site is buttoned up.

ProTrade is partnering with a respected commercial general contractor to deliver a mechanical/HVAC renovation. You will serve as the GC’s on-site leader—their eyes, ears, and voice—ensuring safety, quality, and schedule alignment. This assignment is anticipated to run approximately six months, with strong potential for subsequent phases in the same facility.

What you’ll own

  • Direct day-to-day field operations for a heating system replacement project within a secure environment
  • Coordinate multiple subcontractors, confirm work to plan/spec, and drive sequence and schedule
  • Perform proactive quality control checks to catch issues early and maintain high standards
  • Provide consistent, no-surprise updates to the Project Manager; escalate only when needed
  • Represent the GC professionally with the facility owner and on-site stakeholders
  • Pitch in on light site tasks as needed (surface protection, temporary controls, cleanup)

Who you are

  • Experienced Superintendent or Site Supervisor on commercial projects with strong field leadership
  • Fluent in construction sequencing, subcontractor coordination, and jobsite quality control
  • Mechanical/HVAC know-how strongly preferred (not strictly required)
  • Independent, steady decision-maker and a crisp communicator (informative without noise)
  • Reliable, accountable, and composed under pressure
  • Based within a reasonable commute of Derby, VT (no lodging provided)

Must-haves

  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation
  • Ability to obtain a federal PIV credential (facilitated post-hire)
  • No trade license required
  • Compliance: Must be able to pass a federal background check

Compensation and stability

  • $55–$65 per hour
  • 40 hours/week guaranteed
  • Overtime at time-and-a-half
  • Travel stipend available for longer commutes
  • Weekly W‑2 payroll through ProTrade
  • Potential for multi-year follow-on work in the same facility

Tools in your toolkit

  • Leadership and people management
  • HVAC/R systems familiarity
  • OSHA 10-hour certification
  • HVAC installation and service knowledge
  • Workplace safety/EHS management
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
