A 240-bed regional medical center in Portsmouth is seeking an RN Manager for its Progressive Care Neuro Trauma unit. This hospital serves as the area’s only ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, providing advanced care for complex neuro and trauma patients.

The unit is a 23-bed progressive care environment focused on patients with neurological conditions such as strokes, craniotomies, brain bleeds, seizures, and altered mental status, as well as trauma patients recovering from fractures and injury-related events.

Position Overview

The RN Manager provides daily leadership for the Neuro Trauma progressive care unit, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. This role works closely with the unit director and assumes operational responsibility for the department when needed.

The manager plays a key role in staff coordination, performance management, quality monitoring, and patient care support, while maintaining strong collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Neuro Trauma progressive care unit
• Manage staffing schedules and support appropriate nurse-to-patient assignments
• Conduct patient and family rounding to support care experience and communication
• Monitor quality indicators including medication scanning compliance and documentation accuracy
• Support care planning and interdisciplinary coordination for complex neuro and trauma patients
• Participate in hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and performance evaluations
• Assist with staff development, learning plans, and ongoing education initiatives
• Support disciplinary processes in collaboration with leadership when needed
• Contribute to budgeting, supply management, and resource utilization
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and nursing best practices
• Provide operational leadership coverage in the absence of the unit director

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Current New Hampshire RN license or compact state RN license required
• Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience required (manager, supervisor, or coordinator level)
• Strong clinical background in critical care preferred
• Charge nurse experience (5+ years) may be considered in place of formal leadership experience
• BLS and ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire
