Job Summary
The Sexton will oversee the maintenance and custodial needs of the church’s 3 buildings and physical plant.
Essential Functions:
· Keep constant communication with Buildings and Grounds Chairperson regarding plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry repair needs.
· Monitor and keep properly scheduled maintenance of alarm systems, light timers, programmable thermostats, heating, A/C, dehumidifier, and sprinkler systems.
- Maintain a list of contacts for all regular contractors and coordinate appointments for contractor services
- Supervise the ASA Janitorial Services in cleaning of buildings
· Order and maintain custodial supplies, re-stock bathrooms and kitchens as needed
· Keep walkways clear, empty basement dehumidifiers
· Manage Seasonal Tasks –remove/replace screens, clear irrigation, clean windows
Other Responsibilities:
· Update outdoor sign message boards
· Keep tabs on American Flag half-mast status and bring flag in during storms
· Set up tables and chairs for church events, including weddings/funerals, and restore facilities after the event.
· Open and close Memorial Churchyard plots for burials
- Participate in semi-monthly Staff meetings and monthly Buildings and Grounds Committee meetings.
- Clean up Nelson Hall after events for non-parishioners, or recruit a substitute when unavailable.
- Submit a time sheet after cleaning for weddings, funerals, and Nelson Hall events
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School degree or equivalency
· Some experience with home/property maintenance and cleaning skills
· Some experience hiring contractors and making sure they do the job correctly
· Ability to use texting, email, online calendar, and online ordering of supplies/equipment
· Clean CORI check
Physical Requirements:
- Able to get down on floor and climb ladders to clean and repair.
- Able to lift/move furnishings, cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Able to communicate with rector, Buildings and Grounds Committee, contractors, and fellow staff members.
