We are looking for an experienced individual (J.D preferred) to oversee sophisticated insurance claims involving environmental, asbestos, and other long-tail exposure matters in Boston, Massachusetts. This position focuses on analyzing coverage, directing claim strategy, and guiding matters through investigation, litigation, and resolution. The ideal candidate brings strong legal judgment, sound financial awareness, and the ability to work effectively with counsel, carriers, insureds, and reinsurance partners.


Responsibilities:

• Direct the handling of complex environmental, asbestos, and latent exposure claims from initial notice through final resolution.

• Examine incoming claim materials, investigate underlying facts, and identify coverage considerations based on applicable policy language.

• Interpret primary, umbrella, and excess policies to evaluate exposure and support informed claim decisions.

• Partner with outside counsel, insured parties, carriers, and other stakeholders to move claims forward efficiently and strategically.

• Shape litigation and resolution approaches, including participation in mediations, settlement discussions, and other negotiated outcomes.

• Coordinate with reinsurance contacts by delivering timely updates, reporting information, and claim developments.

• Support coverage-related disputes by working with legal teams on declaratory judgment matters and related proceedings.

• Set and monitor reserves, review financial exposure, and oversee payments, defense costs, and expense allocations.

• Maintain complete claim documentation while ensuring compliance with internal protocols and applicable regulatory or licensing standards.

• Manage a high-volume caseload with careful attention to deadlines, accuracy, and clear communication.

• At least 3 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling or a closely related insurance claims environment.
• Background in environmental, asbestos, toxic tort, or other latent exposure matters is strongly valued.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor preferred.
• Adjuster licensing and/or a relevant industry designation is preferred.
• Demonstrated strength in legal research, civil litigation, insurance defense, and negotiated claim resolution.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to assess complex claim issues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple matters at once while maintaining sound judgment and close attention to detail.
