RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

-Coordinating all educational programs for licensed and unlicensed staff.

-Coordinates and actively participates in unit-based orientation of licensed and non-licensed staff within the facility. Solicits involvement of unit staff as mentors.

-Assures all necessary mandatory education (fire safety, infection control, residents rights, Hazard communication, safety, sexual harassment; Dementia, HIPAA, workplace violence, yearly) required by regulatory standards are available for all staff; track attendance. Schedule live presentations for mandatory in-services on a rotating basis as applicable

-Maintain program attendance records in accordance with the Department of Public Health and other regulatory bodies.

-Coordinates the monthly orientation program at facility.

-Provide or arranges/ verifies BLS, CPR, and First Aid education for direct care staff as required; offer optional training for all other employees.

-Participates in appropriate committee and collaborates with other staff to promote a high standard of care by licensed and non-licensed staff within the Department of Nursing.

-Maintain current employee health files on all staff members to assure compliance with all relevant regulations.

-Monitor and investigate employee injuries and or exposures. Work cooperatively with HR and departments in managing employee injuries and illnesses. Informs Director of Nursing, administrator and Medical Director per protocol.

-Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct our infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern such requirements in nursing care facilities.

-Ensure that the facility is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection control or standard/universal precautions.

-Orient new employees to the importance of infection control policies and procedures, personal hygiene, handwashing/hand hygiene techniques, etc., as well as the employee’s responsibility in following our established procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.

-Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Minimum of one year geriatric experience, preferably with similar population.

  • Previous teaching/staff development experience strongly preferred.

  • Must possess a working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic technique to include standard/universal precautions.

  • APIC Certification in infection control preferred, but not necessary.
