Job DescriptionSalary:

Nyobolt is seeking a Battery Electrode Engineering Technician to support R&D electrode fabrication and process development to advance our industry-leading fast-charge Li-ion cell technology at our Bedford, Massachusetts facility. Working in cooperation with, and initially under the direct supervision of, our Senior Coating Engineer and technical staff, this role will focus on supporting slurry preparation and precision slot-die coating processes for Nyobolts novel electrode technologies. With experience, the Engineering Technician is expected to take on increasing independence.

The Battery Electrode Engineering Technician will also perform quality and metrology measurements on manufactured electrodes and support electrode densification (calendaring) as needed. Successful candidates will be quality- and detail-oriented, comfortable working in a team-based, fast-paced development environment, and capable of real-time problem solving.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of a Coating Engineer in the coating lab performing electrode slurry mixing and coating to meet product and process requirements.
  • Assist with equipment cleaning and preparation.
  • Document slurry mixing procedures and roll-to-roll coating and calendaring processes.
  • Set up, operate, and perform preventative maintenance on mixing, coating, and related metrology equipment.
  • Conduct analytical tests and interpret results, including but not limited to percent solids, viscosity, coat weight, and thickness.
  • Perform other technical functions as required to support R&D operations.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in chemistry, physics, or an engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Entry level to 3+ years of hands-on experience in an industrial product development setting; experience operating roll-to-roll processes in wet powder slurry coating is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and help resolve issues arising during process development and scale-up.
  • Commercial or industrial battery experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to external manufacturing sites, as required.
