School Registered Nurse | Cambridge, Massachusetts
Job Description
Job Description
Take on a rewarding contract opportunity providing critical school nursing support to students riding the morning bus route. This role offers meaningful, hands-on care to students with complex medical needs and contributes directly to their safety and well-being during transportation to school.
This position is based near Cambridge, MA, with morning hours totaling approximately 7.5 hours per week, beginning as soon as possible and continuing through June 18, 2027. The daily pick up is at 6:15 AM at the Virginia Barton Education Center, wrapping up around 7:45 AM. The afternoon bus coverage is already in place, so the primary responsibility is with the morning route only.
You’ll work closely with a small caseload of students ranging in age from preschool to young adult, each with unique care needs including seizure management, monitoring g-tubes, oxygen saturation monitoring, oral suctioning, and allergy management with EpiPen. Having confidence in your clinical decision-making and a steady presence will be vital in this setting.
Key qualifications:
- Current and active MA RN or LPN license
- Minimum one year of relevant experience, ideally with pediatric or school-based nursing
- Experience and comfort providing care for medically complex children and young adults
- Reliable transportation and punctuality for early morning shifts
Core responsibilities:
- Monitor students’ health status during transport and provide clinical interventions as indicated (including Valtoco PRN for seizures, suctioning, g-tube oversight)
- Proactively identify signs of distress and respond accordingly with appropriate care protocols
- Maintain a safe, supportive environment during the bus route for each student’s needs
This position offers the chance to make a real difference in the daily lives of students and their families. If you have the clinical background and dedication to support medically fragile children in a school setting, we encourage you to apply today. Your expertise is needed to ensure every student starts their school day safely.
Compensation for this position ranges from $35.00 to $53.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
