Position Overview:
The Charge Nurse (RN) is responsible for the smooth and efficient patient flow within the clinic. The Charge Nurse delegates assignments and provides supervision for the support staff in accordance with their level of training and the patient's acuity. Works in cooperation with physicians to ensure the quality of patient care. As in any medical practice, scheduled hours may include days.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):
• Demonstrates competency and professional responsibility in the charge nurse role
• Ensures that all nursing functions within the department run smoothly and efficiently
• Provides guidance and support to help staff through challenging situations
• Coordinating daily administrative duties, including schedules, nursing assignments and patient care
• Organizes and prioritizes work to be completed by nursing team
• Efficiently problem solves
• Works on assigned projects under the direction of the Practice Manager and Nurse Manager
• Communicates problems involving personnel, patients, families and the general public to the appropriate management personnel
• Anticipates physician needs
• Assigns lunches and breaks for nursing staff
• Direct patient care including but are not limited to stocking, preparing, and cleaning exam rooms, rooming patients, taking appropriate vital signs (including rectal/temporal temperature, height, weight, blood pressure) and performing vision and hearing screenings
• Performing in-house CLIA-waived testing procedures for strep throat, COVID, flu and processing urine samples
• Providing telephone triage to patients and their families
• Reviewing and reconciling list of medications with patients
• Initiating prescription refill requests for provider review and processing
• Prescription management tasks including processing prior authorizations
• Documenting patient requests for referrals and notifying provider through the referral workflow process
• Communication with patients and families regarding lab results, medication administration, and home care advice
• Providing patient education regarding common childhood illnesses, medications, expected courses of treatment and general medical advice
• Patient care follow-up for ER or Specialist visits
• Monitoring, ordering and stocking supplies.
• Using proper techniques and procedures for hazardous waste disposal, universal precautions and body mechanics
• Maintaining medical equipment
• Documenting in medical record efficiently and accurately
