Job Description
Associate Optometrist – Future Ownership Opportunity\n
Chroma Optics | Burlington, Vermont
\n
$150,000–$170,000 annually | Four-day workweek
Build More Than a Schedule. Help Shape the Future of a Practice.\n
Chroma Optics is looking for an optometrist who wants more than another associate position. We are an established, independent practice in Burlington, Vermont, offering advanced clinical care, a high-end optical experience and a genuine opportunity to grow into practice ownership.
\n
This is an ideal opportunity for an OD who values relationships, clinical independence and thoughtful patient care, and who would like to have a meaningful role in the long-term direction of a practice.
The Opportunity\n
The incoming doctor will step into an established patient base with immediate demand. Chroma Optics is currently scheduling routine care several months in advance, so this is not a position where you will be expected to build a schedule from scratch.
\n
Our doctors typically see approximately two comprehensive exams per hour, with medical visits incorporated throughout the day. We intentionally protect enough time for doctors to connect with patients, explain their findings and make thoughtful recommendations. We are busy, but we are not interested in creating a high-volume, rushed environment.
\n
The position includes:
\n
- \n
- Full-time, four-day clinical schedule
- Consistent weekday off
- No evenings, weekends, travel or call
- Shorter Friday schedule
- Established patient demand from the beginning
- Experienced clinical, optical and administrative support

Compensation & Benefits\n

- Competitive salary of $150,000–$170,000, based on experience
- $750 monthly contribution toward employee health insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont
- 70% employer contribution toward dental insurance
- 401(k) with a potential employer match of up to 4%
- Five paid personal/sick days annually, tiered increase with length of service
- Six paid holidays
- Reimbursement for approved continuing education and required professional licensing
- Complimentary employee eye care and eyewear benefits

A Practice Built Around Better Care\n
Chroma Optics combines advanced technology with a personal, relationship-focused approach. Our goal is to give patients a higher level of care and service than they would typically experience in a high-volume or corporate setting.
\n
The practice offers comprehensive and medical optometry alongside:
\n
- \n
- Dry-eye evaluation and treatment
- IPL, radiofrequency, meibography and other advanced dry-eye technology
- Specialty contact lenses
- Myopia management
- Low-vision care
- Binocular vision dysfunction and NeuroVisual care
- Glaucoma and medical eye-disease management
- Surgical comanagement
- A distinctive, high-end optical

\n
We welcome a doctor who wants to develop an individual area of interest. Dry eye, aesthetics and medical optometry would fit especially well, but we are open to other specialties that complement the practice and meet the needs of the community. Chroma Optics is willing to support the right doctor with training, technology and the resources needed to grow.
Who Will Thrive Here\n
Clinical ability matters, but long-term fit matters just as much.
\n
We are looking for someone who is:
\n
- \n
- Warm, honest and attentive to detail
- Comfortable building lasting patient relationships
- Collaborative and supportive of the entire team
- Interested in leadership and the business side of practice
- Willing to follow through, take responsibility and help move ideas forward
- Curious, teachable and open to continued growth
- Interested in becoming part of the Burlington community
- Looking for a long-term professional home

\n
Both experienced ODs and strong new graduates will be considered. The right person does not need to arrive knowing everything, but should be excited to learn, contribute and grow into greater responsibility.
A Genuine Path Toward Ownership\n
This position is being recruited with future ownership in mind.
\n
The first year will allow both the doctor and the practice to confirm that the clinical, cultural and long-term fit is right. If it is, the intention is to begin a structured transition toward minority ownership rather than allowing partnership discussions to remain open-ended for years.
\n
The eventual structure, valuation and financing will be developed carefully and transparently, with the goal of creating a sustainable path for the right person to become a meaningful partner in Chroma Optics.
\n
This is not an expectation that every applicant must immediately commit to ownership. It is an opportunity for someone who wants the possibility of helping lead and shape an independent practice over time.
Life in Burlington\n
Burlington offers a rare combination of natural beauty, outdoor recreation and college-town culture. Located along Lake Champlain and close to Vermont’s mountains, the area offers skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, boating and year-round access to the outdoors.
\n
The Burlington area also offers excellent schools, a strong healthcare and university community, local restaurants, arts and entertainment, and convenient access to Montreal, Boston and the broader Northeast.
\n
Vermont is not the right fit for everyone, but for someone who values community, four distinct seasons, natural beauty and a more intentional pace of life, it can be an incredible place to build a career and raise a family.
Let’s Start a Conversation\n
If you are interested in joining an established independent practice, developing your clinical interests and exploring a real path toward ownership, we would enjoy getting to know you.
\n
Please submit your resume or CV along with a brief introduction explaining what you are looking for in your next opportunity.

All inquiries will be handled confidentially.
