The Pike School, an independent elementary school in Andover, MA, serves approximately 415 students in grades pre-kindergarten through nine.


    The Pike School is seeking an Upper School Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have middle school teaching experience, including 5th grade. The Pike School culture embraces lifelong learning, which includes constant reflection on and evaluation of practices, materials, and pedagogy. The ideal candidate will approach teaching and learning with student needs in mind, be on the forefront of best practices in science education and research, serve as a leader within the community, and have experience with curriculum approaches like OpenSciEd that center inquiry investigations and a hands-on approach to learning science.

    Collaboration and effective communication are essential skills for this position, as are a sense of humor and joy for working with students in this age group and for the subject matter included in the science curriculum.


    Core Responsibilities:

  • Designing, planning, and implementing science instruction for students in the Upper School (Grade 5 - Grade 8)
  • Assessing, documenting, and communicating effectively with colleagues and families about student growth and development
  • Partnering with leadership team, learning specialists, counselors, and teachers in support of the student learning experience
  • Adapting existing curriculum to meet needs of current students and their schedule; curriculum/program development and experience creating interdisciplinary connections with grade level content preferred
  • Collaborating with Grade Level Teams and the Upper School Science Department to deliver consistent academic instruction.

  • Desired Qualities and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong middle school teaching experience (Grade 5 - Grade 9)
  • A passion for working with students in this age group and a record of outstanding teaching as well as thoughtful innovation moderated by a skillful and sensitive approach to change
  • Experience with technology and its implementation in science classrooms
  • High emotional intelligence and sensitivity to organizational dynamics; exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic independent school as a team player and devoting the time required to model excellence in job performance.

Compensation details: 75000-85000 Yearly Salary
