Direct Counsel is seeking a Compensation & Benefits Associate Attorney with at least 5 years of experience to join a leading global law firm and its highly regarded Compensation & Benefits practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced attorney to advise sophisticated clients on complex employee benefits matters across a diverse range of industries.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience focused on tax-qualified retirement plans and health and welfare benefit plans. Additional compensation and benefits experience is a plus but is not required. The attorney will work with public companies, high-growth businesses, and investors on a broad range of sophisticated compensation and benefits matters.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on tax-qualified retirement plans and related employee benefits matters.

  • Counsel clients regarding health and welfare benefit plans.

  • Advise public companies, high-growth businesses, and investors on compensation and benefits issues.

  • Conduct legal research and analysis regarding complex employee benefits matters.

  • Draft, review, and revise plan documents, amendments, communications, and other related materials.

  • Collaborate with client teams and attorneys across practices to provide proactive, practical legal guidance.

  • Manage multiple matters while maintaining strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant law firm experience focused on compensation and benefits.

  • Substantial experience with tax-qualified retirement plans and health and welfare benefit plans required.

  • Additional compensation and benefits experience preferred but not required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and logical reasoning abilities.

  • Highly motivated with strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

  • Admission to the State Bar of the jurisdiction where the attorney will be located required.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $225,000–$300,000 annually, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, expertise, and geographic location. Additional compensation may include a discretionary merit bonus.
