\n Job Overview
\n We are seeking an experienced Travel NICU Registered Nurse to provide specialized nursing care to premature, critically ill, and medically complex newborns. The NICU RN works closely with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, evidence-based care while supporting newborns and their families.
\n Responsibilities
\n Perform comprehensive assessments of premature and critically ill newborns.
\n Continuously monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, cardiac rhythms, respiratory status, and neurological status.
\n Provide specialized care for neonates requiring intensive monitoring and intervention.
\n Administer medications, IV fluids, nutrition, and other treatments as ordered.
\n Manage peripheral IVs, PICC lines, central lines, feeding tubes, and other neonatal devices.
\n Provide respiratory support and monitor infants receiving oxygen, CPAP, BiPAP, or mechanical ventilation.
\n Assist with procedures and emergency interventions as needed.
\n Monitor feeding tolerance, weight, intake/output, glucose levels, and laboratory results.
\n Provide thermoregulation and incubator/isolette care.
\n Monitor for signs of infection, respiratory distress, sepsis, hypoglycemia, and other neonatal complications.
\n Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
\n Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, pharmacists, and other members of the care team.
\n Educate and support parents and families regarding their infant's condition and care.
\n Promote bonding and developmentally appropriate care whenever clinically appropriate.
\n Follow infection-control, medication-safety, and neonatal patient-safety protocols.
\n Common NICU Patient Population
\n Travel NICU RNs may care for:
\n Premature and extremely premature infants
\n Low-birth-weight infants
\n Respiratory distress syndrome
\n Neonatal sepsis
\n Congenital abnormalities
\n Infants requiring mechanical ventilation
\n Infants requiring CPAP or other respiratory support
\n Neonatal hypoglycemia
\n Infants recovering from surgery
\n Cardiac and congenital heart conditions
\n Feeding and nutritional complications
\n High-risk newborns requiring continuous monitoring
\n Requirements
\n Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of assignment.
\n Recent NICU nursing experience.
\n Current BLS certification.
\n NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification typically required.
\n Experience caring for premature and critically ill newborns.
\n Knowledge of neonatal medications, IV therapy, and nutrition.
\n Experience with neonatal respiratory support and monitoring.
\n Strong assessment and critical-thinking skills.
\n Ability to recognize subtle changes in a neonate's condition and respond appropriately.
\n Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
\n Additional certifications may be required depending on the facility.
