Company Overview: Our client is a small entrepreneurial manufacturing company located in Peabody, MA. There are three different divisions that primarily supply automated Semiconductor OEM's. The Precision Fabrication Group has the engineering expertise and the machining capabilities to make challenging components and assemblies. The Specialized Welding Group supports stainless steel gas lines and panels as well as vacuum process chambers. The System Manufacturing Group is a contract manufacturer that builds and tests complete systems for our customers.
General Summary: We are seeking a results-oriented Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team in supporting new product introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, process improvements, and both customer and driven technical projects. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, project management, and technical expertise to ensure engineering solutions meet performance, quality, and delivery objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 manufacturing engineers and 1 documentation control specialist across key areas of responsibilities listed below.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Manage day-to-day engineering activities including resource allocation, project prioritization, and technical reviews.
- Work closely with your team and other departments to allocate resources effectively, ensuring that teams have the necessary tools, equipment, and personnel to meet company goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales/Program Management, Materials, Planning, Manufacturing, and Quality, to support NPI timelines.
- Act as subject matter expert between customers, internal departments, and suppliers for all Engineering related issues.
Areas of Responsibility for your Team:
- ERP: Leverage the ERP system to establish how materials are driven and flow through the facility.
- ECO Implementation: Develop and execute ECO's and ensure clear communication throughout the organization.
- Project Management: Manage engineering projects related to manufacturing process improvements, ensuring enhanced process quality and effectiveness.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that manufacturing processes meet industry standards, product specifications, and quality requirements. Collaborate with the Quality team to address any non-conformities.
- Process Design and Development: Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes, including building out indented product structures, determining where sub-assemblies should be used, how parts/kits should flow through Production, as well as required tooling, fixturing, and poka-yokes.
- Production Support: Provide technical support to the production team, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including work instructions, procedures, and engineering specifications, to ensure consistency and repeatability in production.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, to enhance manufacturing processes and optimize resource utilization.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential manufacturing risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate these risks effectively.
- Cost Reduction: Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process efficiency improvement. Share findings with Account Management and if approved, implement changes to reduce waste and increase productivity.
- Document Control: Manage the creation, revision, and distribution of manufacturing documents, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), batch records, specifications, engineering change orders (ECOs).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of engineering experience in a contract manufacturing environment. Semiconductor capital equipment industry is a plus.
- 2+ years of leadership experience in engineering management or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, electro-mechanical systems, machining, welding, and materials.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and other relevant engineering tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
- Familiarity with ECO/ECN processes and controls.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles is a plus.
